70′ Marlow in St. Petersburg Florida

On this project at Marlow Marina in Saint Petersburg, Florida a client wanted to update their 70′ Marlow with modern window treatments to match their new leather couch. Removing their original 1″ Wood Blinds and replacing them with Poseidon’s 2″ Ocean Sheer was the perfect choice. As you can see from the photos below, the Ocean Sheer in Ivory light filtering fabric matches the decor and opens up the cabin nicely. The living space now feels bigger by allowing more light to enter while retaining the privacy and temperature controls of the previous horizontal wood wood blinds. Combined with our wire retention system and pull cord operating system these new blinds are not only easy to operate, but will also remain in place when the vessel is in motion.

Luxury Horizontal Sheer is now Available for the Smallest of Window Depths

Luxury Horizontal Sheer has become a popular product within the yachting community. Poseidon Window Treatments has been known for adapting Hunter Douglas Silhouettes for marine applications, and although they are a great product, sometimes there is just not enough room to mount them. However, we have the perfect solution, Poseidon’s ROLLER ONLY Ocean Sheer.

As any yacht owner will tell you, window depth can limit your selection of viable window treatments. With our roller only application we can mount these beautiful blinds with a minimum of 1 7/8″ window depth.

On this particular project our client owns a 61′ Marlow Explorer. A beautiful yacht, but with minimal head rail space. Wanting luxury horizontal sheer left them with only one option, Poseidon’s manufactured in-house Ocean Sheer.  As you can see from the pictures below, the color Marshmallow they chose goes perfect with their interior design.

Specification Information:

  • Available in both 2″, 2.5″, and 3″ Vanes.
  • Roller Only available with a minimum of 1 7/8″ of mounting space needed.
  • Smallest Headrail available needs 2 1/2″ of mounting space.

Roman Shades on a 580 Sea Ray

Roman Shades have become quite popular on boats and yachts recently. Many of our private owners, designers, and OEMs request them because they give yacht interiors a very soft yet refined look.

For this particular 580 Sea Ray  our master sewers manufactured some of our Altantis Roman Shades in what we call a flat roman style using an off-white fabric material. These shades are manually operated using a pull cord, but can be very easily motorized upon request. As you can see from the photos below they came out beautifully.

Our Atlantis Roman Shades can be manufactured from a wide variety of colors, patterns, and fabrics making matching any decor a breeze. If you have any questions, or would like a free estimate contact us today.

72′ Merritt with Motorized Ocean Sheer

Recently we just completed a 72′ Merritt project at Merritt’s Boat and Engine Works. Using our gorgeous Ocean Sheer room darkening blinds we were able to motorize them for the ultimate in luxury blinds. As you can see from the pictures below the yacht is still in its construction phase. However, due to these blinds being manufactured in-house we were able to give them a quick turnaround time.

Hunter Douglas Duolite Shades with LiteRise Technology

Being a Hunter Douglas Priority Dealer has its advantages. The biggest is that we here at Poseidon Window Treatments are able to take their excellent products and install them on many of our clients’ yachts and boats.

This particular project was for a 120′ Hargrave Custom Yacht. Our client wanted blinds that served a dual purpose, but did not block out sunlight completely. For this there was no better option than the Hunter Douglas’ Duolite with their LiteRise system. With the LitRise system, raising and lowering a blind becomes easy and doesn’t take a lot of energy. A perfect operating system for a blind that is essentially two in one.

These particular Duolites have a top half which is made from a semi-sheer fabric that filters light, but still allows you to look through it. The bottom half, on the other hand, is designed with a light filtered fabric that gives the interior of the yacht privacy, but still allows small amounts of light to pass through.

As you can see from the photos below they come in a multitude of colors and fabric opacity to fit any need. Contact us today for a free estimate, and see how much better your yacht can look with Hunter Douglas products.

The Trapezoid and Radius Window Specialists

We often run into clients that have windows on their yachts that they think cannot have proper functioning blinds. Trapezoid windows and windows with a curving radius in particular may look beautiful, but designing a blind that functions normally and matches the other blinds of the boat can be problematic. There is no denying the difficulty of fabricating such specialty shaped blinds, but they are far from impossible. Through our many years of experience we have developed a system to build these types of blinds that function properly without taking away from the style of your yacht’s living quarters.

The blinds pictured below are from our Coral Honeycomb line with a built in cordless tension and wire retention system.

If you have been told no in the past, contact us for that yes. There is no project too large or small we will not tackle with our experienced team of fabricators and installers. After all, the sun doesn’t play favorites when it comes to the sea.

This new facility is already up and running, so any current and future orders will be processed in the same timely manner for which many of our clients have already come to expect.

3/8 Honeycomb Shades for a 41′ Cantius

Honeycomb shades are a very popular product for many of our clients. They not only give a yacht or boat a clean look, but they are also highly durable, easy to use, and can fit to most windows including windshields.

On this particular project our client, who owns a 41 Cantius Yacht built by Cruisers, wanted an updated look that was affordable. We suggested our 3/8 Light Filtered Coral Honeycomb shades that come with a wire retention system and fashionable standoffs. As you can see from the photos below they look amazing and will remain in place even in the roughest of seas.

We also placed our newest product, called the Trident Shade, which is for a yacht or boat’s hatches. These are also made with honeycomb fabric and can also be made with both honeycomb and screen for dual purpose use.

Motorized Windshield Blinds for Yachts

Every Yacht’s pilot house gets hot during the day. With windshields more often then not getting blasted by the sun, there’s no wonder our motorized windshields are in such high demand. We manufacture motorized honeycomb blinds that not only keep pilot houses cool, but maximize visibility by using a bottom/up system.

In the video below you can see how easy they are to use. This one in particular we connected to a Vimar switch so they could be manually lowered and lifted to any height with just a push of a button.

Yacht Blinds for California and the West Coast

Recently we’ve had a large influx of clients looking for yacht blinds or shades on the West Coast, and in particular California. Many felt that prior to speaking with us it was impossible to find a manufacturer who could build and ship custom window treatments without ever stepping foot on their boat or yacht. What surprises them most is how easy we have made the process and this is due to the many years of perfecting our craft.

Our expert staff has the ability to walk you through how to take proper measurements so that we are able to construct precise templates for our manufacturing process. We also provide each of our clients with samples of the materials you are interested in so that they are sure the color and fabric meets their needs. Along with an estimate of the cost and delivery time, each client will be assured they are happy with the results.

Installation itself, however, is what really scares potential clients. What we have done is streamlined the installation of these blinds and shades so that anyone can install them like a professional. Our easy to mount brackets and wire retention systems are thoroughly tested and proven to be easy to use and install. Along with written instructions we can also walk you through the process on a video phone like Skype, if needed.

Available to you are our entire lines of blinds and shades that can be custom built for any windshield, pilot house, stateroom, galley, or any other window you may have. Remember that just because you are on the West Coast doesn’t mean you can’t have the blinds or shades you want for your vessel. Let us help you keep the setting sun at bay during your Pacific ocean voyage. Contact us today for your free estimate!

Motorized Roman Shades for a Luxury Yacht

Many of the luxury yacht owners and their decorators around the world turn to Poseidon Window Treatments for their blind or shade needs. This is because we offer high quality products at reasonable prices and with a service that cannot be matched.

This client in particular wanted to replace their old wooden blinds with Flat Roman Shades. The difference between a Flat Roman Shade and a Hobbled Roman Shade is that in the closed position the material lays flat rather than a noticeably sectioned shade with slight bulges. Rather than picking one of the many materials we offer they came to us with a custom material they hand picked from their interior decorator. They shipped us the material and we manufactured a product that matched their yacht’s interior exactly. On top of the new look, we also motorized all the Roman Shades so that at a press of a button you can control the entire atmosphere of the yacht’s main salon.

The yacht also had a large sliding glass door in the aft of the main salon. It was just too large for a matching roman shade, but they needed something to give them privacy at night. After careful consideration they elected to go with our suggestion of having a Pinch Pleat Drapery that was motorized in order for it to fully open and close with ease. We also added a 1.5 inch banding to give the drapery even more style.

As you can see from the pictures above the project came out amazing and both the owners and decorator could not have been happier.

540 Searay with Our Coral Honeycomb Windshields

Windshield shades and blinds are always a difficult project mainly because it requires a lot of precision and expertise to pull them off properly. One of the most difficult reasons for this is that most windshields have extreme curves and pitches to them. Not only does fabric have to be custom cut to fit the odd window’s shape, but the mechanics of how the shade lowers and raises has to be designed in such a way that it is easy for anyone to operate.

For example, one of our latest windshield projects was for a newly bought 540 Searay. Our expert manufacturers and installers were able to build our Coral Honeycomb Shades to fit comfortably over the windshield giving our clients added privacy and protection from the sun. It will make the cabin so much cooler during those early morning summers and protect the interior from UV damage over time.

Customed Stained Wood Blinds

Here at Poseidon Window Treatments we take our custom stained wood blinds seriously. We know how important it is to match a specific color to your yacht and the treatment of your blinds will make or break the overall decor of any interior. That is why our Harbour Wood Binds can be customized to match any style and any shape.

After selecting the specific kind of wood needed for each individual product we thoroughly review every single slat of wood for quality control. We remove any defects or warped slats to assure that you get a quality product that will last a long time in the harsh environment of the ocean. Once the wood is properly prepped and thoroughly examined they hit our spray booth to be sprayed by to the exact specifications and color that our clients request.

What this means is that every job we manufacture and install is truly custom and unique to each yacht. The Harbour Wood Blind collection is also available in motorization and each blind comes with a retention system that will make sure the blinds remain still even in the roughest seas.

2012 65′ Hatteras Project – Hunter Douglas Silhouettes

This was a rush project for us since our client’s 65′ Hatteras had to be in the Caicos Islands within two weeks. They wanted white Hunter Douglas Silhouettes with magnetic tie downs that would stop the shades from swaying and potentially getting damaged when the boat rocked.

Normally a job like this would take 4-6 weeks. However, due to our great relationship with Hunter Douglas, and the fact that we are Hunter Douglas priority dealer, we were able to get the correct shades using our exact measurements and install them within the allotted time frame.

Needless to say our client loved them and you can tell from the pictures below that they came out beautifully. For more information on all the Hunter Douglas products we customize specifically for the marine industry please visit our Hunter Douglas Products Page.

Taking Good Measurements

It’s common sense that taking a good measurement is important. Especially when you are building a product away from where the measurements were taken. The simplest things can throw off a precise measurement from using a good measuring tape, to not knowing that most windows will not be square.

For our residential side of the business it is common place for most windows in a home not to be square. On a yacht, however, they will probably be square do to the precision of most yacht builders. However, matching port and starboard window sizes will not always be the same size, and many times are not. It is one of the things our manufacturers and installers are trained to look out for. Not assuming anything in the blind manufacturing business is our number one rule.

It’s not just about the size of the window or door either. There are many other measurements to take into consideration besides the height and width. For instance, is there enough room for the headrail? Do our clients want the blinds to be flush against their interior walls, or do they want to have enough space to add a valance? These are the questions we ask even before the measurements are taken. Things can always change later, but it’s always best to be sure what can and cannot be done.

The main reason measurements have to be precise is because a lot of time and money can be wasted for both us and our clients. We want to build and install the one time. We know yacht owners are smart people that do not want their time wasted. Well, neither do we. For example, the last thing we ever want to happen is for the early morning sun to get into your bedroom if you have blackout shades. Otherwise, what is the point of  having blackout shades?

That’s why Poseidon employees always measure things twice. We want to make sure we get things perfect for our clients. Marine quality blinds are not always cheap to manufacture, and we know our clients don’t always like to stay in the same port for too long. That’s why when you hire us to do a job for you we get it done with the same precision and expertise that is to be expected from a high quality product. Call us today, and you too can see how expert craftsmen build and install blinds that your yacht deserves.

Our Newest Honeycomb Sheer 3/4″ on a Cordless System

This was a great project for us and our client could not have been happier with the results.  They wanted a set of blinds that not only kept out a majority of the light but that was also easy to maintain and clean.  The perfect product for their salon was a 3/4 Honeycomb Sheer on a cordless system that you can see from the pictures below look amazing.

In the staterooms they wanted less light filtered through so we suggested a semi-opague Honeycomb with a cordless system that is perfect when you need to get some sleep.  For clients that prefer no light coming into their staterooms we also have the same fabric available in blackout.

In-House Manufactured Honeycomb Shades Top-Down Bottom-Up on a Tension System

Here is a recent custom project we did for a client.  As you can see the blinds not only go up, but down too.  You won’t see this anywhere else on the market! It is perfect for those days and nights where you just have to keep the glaring sun out of your eyes.  It is also great for when you want some privacy, but also want some natural light too.

Neither Shaken nor Stirred would sway these blinds!

A beautiful yacht it is indeed!

  • In the Galley we installed 2″ Aluminum  blinds from Hunter Douglas with a wire retention system.
  • In the Salon we placed motorized Duettes from Hunter Douglas with a wall switch and a wire retention system.
  • In the Entertainment Room we added Top Down 3/4 Blackout Duettes from Hunter Douglas with inverted cuts and a tension system.
  • The entire Downstairs was done with 3/4 Hunter Douglas Duettes Sheer Fabric.  These have a standard pull cord with a wire retention system.

Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Blinds

This was a great custom job to finish for our client.  The lower deck has Hunter Douglas Duette Architella blinds with  inverted cuts and tension system with a Top Down light filtered material.  We did the top deck the same way except we used a blackout material instead to keep the rooms dark when needed.

140′ Super Yacht

We turned this lady into a queen!  The Upper and Salon decks were done with motorized Silhouettes that were battery powered with wire retention systems.  We also motorized Roman shades that were not manufactured by us, proving once again that we can improve any product with our expertise.  The Master Bedroom also got roller shades motorized with a wire retention system.
